I don't know about you guys, but bears are my favorite part of the zoo!
Did you know?
- Bears are mammals belonging to the Ursidae family. We have all members of this family here at our zoo!
- Over here we have the Ursus Arctos aka. the brown bear. The scientific name of the brown bear comes from the Latin ursus, meaning "bear", and the Greek ἄρκτος/arktos, also meaning "bear". They stand at about 3-5 feet at the shoulder and 5-7 feet in length. Very large brown bears can measure almost 9 feet tall when standing on their hind legs. Their weight can range from 200 to 1000 lbs.

- Let's continue on to the polar bears!
Polar bears
- Polar bears are technically considered marine animals because of their dependence on aquatic prey. They primarily feed on seals, beluga whales, walruses, some terrestrial prey, and whale carcasses. However, they are never opposed to a little healthy eating, as they generally will eat kelp, berries, roots, mushrooms, moss and lichens, dandelions, clover, and chamomile. They can grow to 6–9 feet long and weigh between 300–1,700 lbs, depending on sex.

Black bears
- 85-90% percent of an American black bear’s diet comes from berries and nuts. The other 10-15% of their diet is meat
- Bears are usually shy and friendly but you should keep in mind that they are still wild animals. They can be extremely protective of their cubs, always look from a distance.
